Working with Cruinn Diagnostics, APMG has completed another successful lab furniture project for a global pharma company in Athlone, Ireland. The APMG team designed and manufactured the top-quality laboratory furniture, and Cruinn, which had undertaken the development of the lab, expertly installed it. The whole project was delivered on time and to budget for valued clients.
The lab development called for a mix of furniture styles to meet the pharmaceutical company’s exacting specifications. The Athlone facility has been recognised as an innovative site setting the standard in the industry. It is committed to continued quality, safety, efficiency, and technological advancement. The lab furniture was designed and manufactured to exceed the company’s demanding standards – and it did not disappoint!

The pharmaceutical end user is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on transforming biopharmaceutical discoveries into novel medicines. It develops life-changing medicines for people with serious diseases so they can live their lives more fully.
APMG’s designers came up with a mix of pedestal, mobile and C-frame furniture to deliver a stable and engaging workplace environment which meets current workflows. The mobile element of the furniture allows for changing work patterns to be met with minimum disruption.
The lab consists of defined areas – the main labs, prep rooms, and a writing-up room. Each one was carefully designed to deliver to our client’s needs.
Mobile lab furniture is ideal for futureproofing laboratories. When workflows and applications change, mobile tables and moveable cabinets can be easily repositioned to accommodate the new arrangements.
The tough mobile tables were upgraded with secure Footmaster levelling casters for this lab. Levelling casters are perfect for areas where equipment is frequently moved and repositioned. They are also invaluable where flooring is not quite flat, allowing tables to be set absolutely level for ease of working. This also helps to protect sensitive equipment and ensure its accurate operation.
For added flexibility, the design team created a smart locking system for the tables. Installed beneath the worktops, it allows up to three tables to be securely locked together. The tables can be reconfigured as individual worktops, or secured to provide a larger, fixed working area.
What looks straightforward can often require skill to achieve. Glass-fronted wall-mounted cabinets typically have a slide-opening arrangement. However, in the Prep Room, the brief was clear – our client wanted hinged doors with a glass inlay for their new lab.
The APMG designers, along with the skilled manufacturing team, made the doors with the maximum amount of glass possible while still allocating enough material at the edges to maintain the doors’ stability and allow adequate space for hinges, handles and closers.
As a result, the Prep Room offers simple, at-a-glance access to all the materials and apparatus the users require.
Lab service risers provide a route for mechanical and electrical lab services to pass through, typically containing ducts, pipes and cables.
This lab called for a range of service riser heights, varying from full floor-to-ceiling risers, 925mm standard bench-to-ceiling risers, and a 500mm high HPLC bench-to-ceiling riser.
The laboratory worktops and the mobile table tops all benefitted from premium Trespa® TopLab®PLUS. This tough, durable material is ideal for environments where hygiene, avoidance of contamination, sustainability and safety are important.
