December 2019 sees the beginning of APMG’s 80th birthday celebrations. From humble beginnings, in 1939 its products can now be found not only in the UK but across the globe. This year alone it has exported to Hong Kong, Barbados, Poland and Ireland, among other destinations.
The Manchester-based company operates two divisions: one is a market leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality commercial furniture for laboratories, universities and schools. The other fabricates thermoplastics, making fans, ductwork and specialised equipment for industry and education.
Owned by the same family for almost 50 years, the company moved to its current factory in 1998 and has thrived. Its 36 team members include designers, installers, machine operators, welders and plastics fabricators.
‘We’ve got a rich history that stretches back to the commercialisation of thermoplastics during WW2 and the development of laboratory furniture and scientific equipment for early atomic research,’ says Will Perrott, Managing Director. ‘And while we’re still supplying top-secret facilities, we’re also looking to the future. We grow our own talent through a programme of apprenticeships and we’re always looking for skilled craftsmen to join our team.
‘The quality of our products is valued in several markets – during 2019 our lab furniture and fume cupboards have travelled to Hong Kong, Poland and Ireland and our installation team has visited Barbados to fit one of our fume cupboard, fume scrubber and ductwork extract systems.
‘It’s great to reach APMG’s 80th birthday. We’ve demonstrated resilience in challenging manufacturing markets over the years,’ adds Will. ‘It’s a real testament to the professionalism and dedication of our team, the freshness of our designs and the quality of our products that we’ve reached this milestone.’
