APMG Fitted Furniture Brings Junior School Vision to Life

APMG’s fitted furniture has brought an architect’s exciting vision for a fresh, light Junior School extension to life. Bromley High School, part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, has fun, practical spaces to inspire and stimulate young minds.

APMG’s experienced team designed the fitted furniture in the independent school’s new specialist facilities to fulfil IID Architects’ specifications. It has been professionally manufactured from premium materials such as Velstone and Trespa. Complete with teaching walls, reading nooks, and bespoke display areas, this challenging project was skillfully installed by APMG craftsmen.

Fitted Furniture Designed For Learning

This forward-looking design meets the school’s brief of bright and creative spaces. It incorporates challenging design requirements and uses premium materials for the fitted furniture. The beautiful, long-lasting worktops are mainly Velstone.

No 21st-century schoolroom is complete without APMG’s trademark teaching walls. They offer a learning focal point and, of course, plenty of storage. And the welcoming circulation area for Reception children features a neat play and reading nook in the fully fitted wall – the perfect spot for budding bookworms.

APMG’s expert teams designed, manufactured and installed:

A Phased Approach

The project was delivered in two phases. As a result, the school could use the science, cookery and art facilities while the remaining areas were completed.

Hard-Wearing Velstone Worktops

The worktops in the Science, Cookery and Art facilities and in the practical area were fabricated in 25 mm Velstone in Packice.

This high-end solid surface material is non-porous. As a result, scratches and stains can be easily removed and accidental damage is repairable.

APMG is renowned for its school science lab furniture. Here, the hexagonal and pentagonal worktops for the science lab were each fashioned by APMG’s skilled craftsmen from two sheets of Velstone. The seamless, invisible joins were completed in the factory.

The larger Cookery School worktops were engineered at APMG’s factory. The perimeter sheets were sent out profiled and ready to receive the sinks and cookers. The enormous island worktops were produced in two parts. They were then meticulously jointed on-site by our professional installation team. Find out more about our school food tech furniture here.

APMG’s in-house steelwork department fabricated the strong, heavy-duty steel frames to take the weight of these substantial surfaces.

The Science Lab Fitted Furniture

The Science lab has multi-sided Velstone workstations. Because each place has a practical storage shelf underneath, students’ concentration is helped with clutter-free surfaces.

A splash of colour and fun has been added with the glass splashbacks at the perimeters and our vibrant Pluto power outlets.

The teaching wall and desk provide a focal point for learning, with storage, whiteboards and an interactive screen.

The Cookery Area

This multi-functional space will be used for budding chefs from both the Senior and Junior schools. It also provides the setting for the lively after school club.

The Velstone perimeter benching houses the cooking appliances, while the sizeable Velstone island benches are where the preparation takes place. Of course, enough APMG storage is built into every unit to keep the room tidy and the teachers happy.

Art & DT Room Fitted Furniture

APMG’s designers provided fun, decorative shelving to fully display the artwork created by these talented students. The fixed perimeter benching has Velstone surfaces and offers plenty of storage space.

A practical 2.4 m stainless steel wash trough is included. The architect requested a bespoke fitting arrangement, which gives all ages access to clean their equipment.

Teaching Walls

APMG’s signature teaching walls feature enough storage to delight even the most demanding of teachers.

These useful additions to the classroom feature interactive screens and practical whiteboards cunningly disguised as sliding doors. There is also plenty of integrated storage and lockable storage below. The teachers’ desks have tough Velstone worktops.

Here’s what IID Architects has to say

“We were delighted to work with Bromley High School GDST on the extension and refurbishment of their Junior School building. Our vision matched their brief for a welcoming, contemporary building with light, uncluttered interiors.

APMG helped us bring that vision to life. Their design team has interpreted our drawings and delivered precisely what we asked them for.

The quality of workmanship – both manufacture and installation – has been extremely high. The Velstone worktops were executed perfectly, with no visible jointing. Every detail we asked for was delivered – including the delightful play nook in the circulation area.

At IID we hold our project partners to the most exacting standards. It speaks to the quality of APMG’s service that we are already working with them again on another project.”

Hard working furniture that can be reconfigured!

“Bromley High School GDST provides an outstanding education for girls between 4 to 18 in an innovative, happy atmosphere. The exciting development of our Junior school forms part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best possible learning environment for our students. APMG’s tough school furniture has proved the ideal solution for our bright and airy spaces for creative learning. It’s long lasting, good to look at and lots of fun. We asked for hard working furniture that could be reconfigured as our teaching needs evolve. The finished product fulfils the remit – it’s lively, great quality and very practical. The project took place during challenging times. APMG worked flexibly with the main contractor to accommodate the changing schedule for us. We would certainly use them again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
