APMG has installed a prep room and two fresh new labs, complete with six fume cupboards, at a top-performing Cheshire school. Providing a vibrant learning environment for over 1400 students, Alsager School has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. APMG’s tough science lab fitted furniture will help to keep pupils engaged in this top-performing school.
Alsager School is an achieving school, committed to offering an enriching STEM learning experience to its pupils. The new labs are designed with a layout that encourages easy interaction and communication between teacher and students.
Every lab needs storage, and these have it in abundance. Cupboards in the peninsula work benches and trays built into the perimeter benching ensure a tidy, clutter-free learning environment with fewer distractions. The furniture is robust, with tough Trespa® worktops that will withstand the demands of a busy science classroom.
To keep staff and students safe and protected the school has installed three APMG fixed ducted fume cupboards in each lab. CLEAPSS G9 compliant, they have been tested to the BS EN 14175 standard to confirm their excellent levels of fume containment. This generous amount of equipment also allows Alsager School’s students to fully participate in and benefit from practical science experiments. The fume cupboards have glass to three sides so students can easily view demonstrations.
Working with APMG means fewer contractors and suppliers to deal with. APMG’s complete science lab package includes the in-house manufacture of furniture, fume cupboards, fans and ducting. This puts it firmly in charge of quality assurance and gives the flexibility to make bespoke and replacement items quickly and efficiently. Its dedicated DBS-checked installation teams professionally fit and commission the labs, prep rooms and fume cupboards.
The property consultants engaged to deliver the new labs, E3 Cube, had worked with APMG for previous projects. They returned to us again for this exciting school development.
The result: An exciting new learning and teaching space to promote the STEM curriculum for the next generation of scientists and engineers.

“The new labs offer a bright and practical teaching environment. The layout works really well for both students and teachers - I like to be able to walk down the centre, see what's going well and help pupils who need support. The furniture is sturdy with loads of storage - there's even space to store school bags - and the teacher’s desk area is well laid out and spacious.”
